Coverage in Tanzania

Sim card coverage for data and calling in Tanzania is different from Europe. In sparsely populated areas and national parks like Serengeti, the phone often does not work. Still, cell phones are used by a lot of Tanzanians. In Dar Es Salaam, there is pretty good coverage. The same is true on many of Zanzibar’s white beaches. On the route from Kilimanjaro Airport to Arusha, Instagram and Whatsapp can probably be used. Driving from Arusha toward Ngorongoro Crater there is phone coverage and the same goes for many places around Laka Magadi. Further on at the beginning of Serengeti there are also places with coverage but deeper into the area it is less. So enjoy the safari and send photos later when there is network coverage again.

How do I install the Tanzania SIM card in my phone?

Open the slider on the side of the phone. You can do this with the pin that came with the phone. If you don’t have this you can make one by bending a paper clip. Airport Telecom sim cards also come with an extra pin.

Remove your own sim card and keep it safe! Now insert the new SIM card. There is only one way to do this. You may have a phone that can hold more than one SIM card. Insert the new SIM card as an extra card.

Push the SIM card slide back into the phone now. If all goes well, you can now automatically use the new sim. The phone may ask you to do some additional settings.
