Data and calling in Mexico

The AT&T eSIMs that we use for Mexico have an American phone number (country code +1). In addition to having access to 12GB or Unlimited data, you can also just use it on the go to make calls to hotels and restaurants, for example.

Android: Check beforehand if your type of Android phone and its version number are in the list of AT&T itself. You can find those via this AT&T link. It is a pdf document. Please check carefully that not only the device type but also the version number matches. This is listed in brackets after the phone type. So the type and version number of your phone should both be in the AT&T list. If this is not the case and you order anyway then it will not work in Mexico. We cannot make a refund of the purchase price in this situation once the eSIM is activated for you.

Coverage with eSIM Mexico

Mexico is a huge country with good phone coverage in the cities and well-known coastal towns like Playa del Carmen and Acapulco, but with also many remote areas where there are no transmission towers. In and around Mexico City cell phone coverage is excellent so Churro’s eating in the Centro Histórico or watching “The History of Mexico” at the Palacio Nacional you can navigate or share photos’s with the home front. In the countryside and mountains, this will be more difficult. In Cancun with its white beaches and vibrant nightlife, there is perfect mobile Internet, and the same is true in Zihuatanejo, Cozumel and the many other famous and crowded places.

Installing eSIM Mexico

The installation of an eSIM is simple by scanning the QR code you receive after purchase. Scan this QR code with your smartphone. The installation will then proceed automatically. Important: a working internet connection is required to add the eSIM.

Installing eSIM on iPhone

The eSIM is installed by scanning the QR code. On an iPhone, the easiest way is to go to Settings > Mobile Data > Add eSIM. Then scan the QR code.

Installing eSIM on Samsung or other Android phones

The eSIM is installed by scanning the QR code. Go to Settings > Connections > SIM Management. Tap Add eSIM and then tap Scan QR Code. Scan the QR code.

Helpful tips for installing eSIM on a phone

Ensure a working internet connection during installation
Enable Mobile Data and Data Roaming on the eSIM
Turn off Mobile Data and Data Roaming on your primary SIM to avoid high data costs outside Europe
The QR code for an eSIM can only be used once. It is not possible to transfer an eSIM to another phone
