Mobile Access in Mexico with a Mexican SIM Card

With Airport Telecom Schiphol’s Mexican prepaid SIM cards, you can make unlimited calls and use mobile data throughout Mexico. You can choose between a 5GB data plan and an Unlimited data plan. Both SIM cards are usable in both Mexico and the USA. The plans are ideal for internet use and provide easy access to email, WhatsApp, navigation, and other internet applications.

Whatsapp with a Mexican SIM Card

All calls made over the internet, such as with WhatsApp, Skype, FaceTime, etc., are also possible. You will then use the data plan on the SIM card. Just like with all other apps, you can continue to use WhatsApp as usual. Once WhatsApp detects that a different SIM card is in your phone, it may ask you whether you want to create a new account or leave everything as it was. If you choose the latter, nothing will change on WhatsApp. You’ll simply keep your existing WhatsApp identity with all your contacts, groups, and chats.

You can pick up your prepaid Mexico SIM cards at our Airport Telecom store in Schiphol Plaza upon departure from Schiphol. SIM cards can also be delivered free of charge to your home in the Netherlands and Belgium. Orders placed on weekdays before 2:00 PM will be shipped the same day. Delivery usually takes place within one or two business days.

How do I install the SIM card Mexico in my phone?

Open the slider on the side of the phone. You can do this with the pin provided with the phone. If you don’t have this you can make one by bending a paper clip. Airport Telecom sim cards also come with an extra pin.

Remove your own sim card and keep it safe! Now insert the new SIM card. There is only one way to do this. You may have a phone that can hold more than one SIM card. Insert the new SIM card as an extra card.

Push the SIM card slide back into the phone now. If all goes well, you can now automatically use the new sim. The phone may ask you to do some additional settings.

Which SIM card to use in Mexico?

For a short stay of a few days, you probably won't need that much data. The 5GB data bundle for Mexico may then be sufficient. Applications such as Whatsapp, Instagram and navigation do not consume much data. If you are staying longer, it may be useful to choose Unlimited so you will definitely have enough data. The Unlimited SIM card also offers unlimited calls within Mexico.
