So these cards are very suitable for internet use. Be careful, however, because you can receive incoming phone calls in Sint Maarten with these prepaid SIM cards, but you cannot make normal outgoing phone calls with them. All calls that run through the internet such as with Whatsapp, Skype, Facetime etc. are of course possible. After all, you are then using the data bundle on the SIM card.

Internet and calling while traveling on Sint Maarten

The phone number of the prepaid sim card on which you can be reached in Sint Maarten will be sent to you by SMS after activation of the sim. It is an English (+44) number. We chose this because the sim in question offers a very good data bundle for the French part of Sint Maarten and uses the largest mobile networks.

Whatsapp with sim card Sint Maarten

Whatsapp you can continue to use with your own existing contacts, groups and chats. After inserting a prepaid sim card, Whatsapp may ask if you want to create a new identity or if everything should stay as it was. If so, choose the latter and nothing will change. You can then continue to send messages and make calls with Whatsapp as usual.

Reachability by phone on Sint Maarten

Sint Maarten is divided into a French and a Dutch part. These prepaid SIM cards only work in the French part. Coverage is excellent in the “French” capital Marigot with Fort Louis and the French pastries. Furthermore, it should be noted in St. Maarten that calling and Internet go well in the populated areas but there are also many mountainous and remote parts. On beautiful beaches like Baie Rouge, Grand Case Beach and Friar’s Bay, coverage can be less. Especially enjoy the sun and the tropical blue sea so and photos’s possibly send later with Whatsapp from the busier parts of St. Maarten.

Simple sim card installation

Step 1

Install your SIM card

Open the slider on the side of the phone. You can do this with the pin that came with the phone. If you don’t have this you can make one by bending a paper clip. Airport Telecom sim cards also come with an extra pin.

Step 2

Set up your SIM card

Remove your own sim card and keep it safe! Now insert the new SIM card. There is only one way to do this. You may have a phone that can hold more than one SIM card. Insert the new SIM card as an extra card.

Step 3

Start using data

Push the SIM card slide back into the phone now. If all goes well, you can now automatically use the new sim. The phone may ask you to do some additional settings.
